[ he nods to the first, a little "mn" to confirm. a month... he saw chengzhu right as he left, but otherwise... the amount of work he's going to have to do is going to be astounding.

as for the second bit.....there is a long pause. ]
I....confess I am not entirely sure where that is. What is "halloween", exactly...?
shixiong: will i ever make a sound? / "waving through a window", dear evan hansen (41)

[ so casually.... yeah he's old as shit

anyway. he tilts his head! ]
...As ghosts, spirits and such?
shixiong: the ramblings of a lunatic (61)

[ he shakes his head! ]

I would be glad to learn. [ teach him your ways, modern natalie! ]
shixiong: flirt with becoming food for worms (52)

[ an attentive nod!!! ] They were startlingly clear.
shixiong: that i deserve forgetting (72)

[personal profile] shixiong 2020-06-22 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
[ oh. ]

Chengzhu's wraith butterflies can capture action as it happens, and play it back for himself and I to see later; he often uses it for surveillance. Is that similar?
shixiong: so i've got nothing to share (8)

[personal profile] shixiong 2020-06-22 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
[ for a moment, a bit of amusement tugs at his expression, and he bows his head. ]

I would be remiss in making things too complicated for anyone, so I'm glad. So... those are both 'movies' and 'TV shows'? What's the difference?
shixiong: but the thoughts have begun (45)

[personal profile] shixiong 2020-06-22 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
[ thoughtfully... ] Would a movie be like a play, then? This makes sense.
shixiong: before i even turn the key (2)

[personal profile] shixiong 2020-06-22 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[ nod nod. ]

I see. So, people dress up in costume as these characters on this 'halloween'? Or as ghosts... [ ... ] I'm not sure how much I understand it, but I think it would be quite popular in the Ghost City.

[ ....yeah. then again, the people there will basically take any excuse to party. so. ]
shixiong: and no one tells you (28)

[personal profile] shixiong 2020-06-24 03:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[ that gets a smile out of him, a bit fond. ]

Some things don't change from time to time. [ little children running excitedly for sweets... that's consistent no matter what. ]

Many of the residents of the Ghost City wear masks, like my own. [ reaching up, he knocks his knuckle gently against his emotional support mask. ] In that sense, they're often 'costumed', too.
shixiong: why has constructing sentences (62)

[personal profile] shixiong 2020-06-26 11:50 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes. [ he pauses, thoughtful. ] It's common for ghosts to want to hide their appearances, out of shame or other feelings. Occasionally they will have wounds they want to cover, or demons or ghosts may have more unnatural features that are hidden as well. It's also a way for humans --or Heavenly Officials--to blend in, so they can enjoy the services the city has to offer without being known.

[ ...of course, it goes without saying, that yin yu and hua cheng both always know exactly when someone new enters the ghost city, but that's besides the point. ] My own offers a sense of anonymity, in some ways, but more so, it is a recognizable feature. The ghosts of the city know the Xian Xian Yue officer as the second in service of Hua Chengzhu, and therefore, know what I do or say to be his word.
